Voice Actor Needed! - HECU SOLDIER

I’d love to try my hand at it, but I live in town, with people, who probably won’t appreciate me hollering expletives over and over! I’m not sure if my mic is quality enough anyway, $50 mic from a good brand, but I’ve never tried to do any HD recording with it. I don’t quite like my voice voice, I’m 23 yet I sound like a 16 year old neck-beard, like what the hell is that nonsense! :fffuuu:

Gave me a good laugh, got a real ‘pro wrestler’ vibe from it :stuck_out_tongue:

To be completely honest, you sound the best at 56th or so second of combat1, the soft voice. The very end also isn’t half bad.

He’s forcing a raspy voice, trying to emulate how they sounded in the original. Not sure if best approach, tbh.

I know it’s Half-Life and all, but it somehow sounds like you weren’t taking it seriously enough. The voices aren’t bad at all, but I get the vibe you were trying to push the comedic effect a bit too far.

I assumed Ramirezoid’s submission was a joke.

[COLOR=‘DimGray’]If it wasn’t, then I’m sorry Ramirezoid.

Ramirezoid, your submission was hilarious…
If it wasn’t meant to be that way, then I am sorry. The voices you did for the Human Medic was pretty good.

Speaking of which, it would be nice to a variety of voices, instead of 1 voice actor.

It wasn’t a joke I just lack subtlety

I reckon I could do a good job at it, given I didn’t have a heavy foreign accent and had proper recording equipment.

I’ll drop my audition here as well since it’s encouraged. I hope y’all enjoy. ^¬^

I did get the email delay reply too, but I think it may just be a problem with my Gmail.

I’d give it a shot myself, but my voice isn’t guttural enough and my recording equipment is mediocre at best.

Good luck to the rest of you.

This is great, it was a fun attempt and I hope my submission will cut the mustard.

Here it is if the rest of yous guys want to take a listen: https://soundcloud.com/hammertrax/hecu-audition-dry-wet

I am open to objective feedback (through DM or email, so as to avoid thread derailment  ).

Cheers and I hope they find what they’re looking for!

I’d try, but I don’t have a mic sadly. What a shame, and I could do a decent impression of the original Hgrunts too. All these submissions sound real good though, especially Eric’s!

Speaking of, who voiced the radio operator that we only hear once in the game?

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS\sound\vo\c2a2c\oar_radiolaunchpad.wav, or listen from my dropbox if you’re lazy or don’t have it :stuck_out_tongue:

Eric, yours was pretty damn good.

Eric, your voice kind of sounds like the Soldier from TF2. It’s pretty cool.

Mr. Someguy, yeah. That radio effect actually sounds really cool. It sounds more “military professional”, and less angry “Hell yeah!” teenager. I would totally like that.

Yeah, I’m guessing that was recorded before they switched to the outlandish approach, since it’s at a very stark contrast with the current voices.

Acting could use some work here and there, but hot damn your voice is fantastic. How the hell you switch between voices like that

Your gruff soldier is faaaaar better than Black Mesa’s, it reminds me of something else, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. The other voice (from the ‘dragging freeman’ scene) reminds me of the Scout, even has a Boston accent. The second generic voice is great as well. Hell, I hope they pick you.

Yes, good voice, especially the very last one, sounds very natural and believable. It’s all good (save the ground zero voice ,_,) just needs some improvement on the acting part. I guess it’s hard to take such a bad script seriously tho, especially the “he will pay” part.

I assumed the ground zero part was more him showing off what all he can do. Doesn’t fit, but he still does it excellently.

Can you guys please stay on topic? This thread is for submitting voice-over demo’s. It’s slowly turning into a thread where people discuss voice-over in the game, judge other applications, or randomly apologize for not being able to record something (?).

If you want to discuss the voice-over work in Black Mesa, feel free to head over to The Cafeteria. Judging the applications, that’s something that should be left to the developers - I believe they’re quite capable. As for the people apologizing for not being able to record something… don’t worry, it will be ok.

As for everyone else, good job on recording demo’s and posting them. Keep it up!

I will absolutely throw my hat in the ring for this. I just wish I had a decent mic.

As far as the voice bits- could I toss in some more appropriate soldier vernacular? (Instead of “Sir, I heard something,” could I say instead: “Squad, soft contact?”)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
